Lou Pennisi wanted to act. That was her dream. She completed a Bachelor of Arts in Performance Studies….and then she patiently waited for her dream to come true. During this time, she drew… and painted…. and drew some more. This was nothing new really.Much of her childhood was spent with her head in a sketchpad or a paintbrush in her hand. She started making things, learned to sew, just to pass the time really, but this slowly turned into the “new dream”. Over time, totally innocent was born.
Everything in the totally innocent range has been handmade and designed in Melbourne, Australia. Lou’s whimsical illustrations are the thing that makes totally innocent stand apart. Her sweet designs and fresh colour choices are what makes her designs so unique, and she draws on memories of her own sweet childhood to create her designs. Her illustrations have been used for the past 2 years on lampshade designs that children coloured in,at the Light In Winter festival at Federation Square. She has also been commissioned in the past 12 months to create a painting at a childcare centre in Melbournes’ North and a primary school in the West.
Lou is passionate about handmade products. So much so, that in early 2010 she started a handmade market in Melbournes West. Lou’s goal for ‘Yarraville Markets’ was to create a platform for other artists and upcoming designers to showcase their work in a friendly, supportive environment.
Lou divides her time between totally innocent, the running of Yarraville Markets and her biggest achievement so far, her three darling children.
She still dreams of writing a childrens’ book and developing a range of children’s bedlinen….watch this space !!
